The aim of this study is researching the impact of social science lesson supported by digital stories on students' achievement, the focus of control and ability of critical thinking. The study was designed with semi-experimental model pre-test and post-test control group paired design. The study group of the study consisted of 42 students who attended the 4th class in a elementary school located in the central district of Rize in the academic year of 2016-2017. SPSS 20.0 statistical package program was used to analyze the quantitative data obtained. As a result of the research, the achievement scores, critical thinking skills (deduction, induction, observation, hypothesis and universal critical thinking) and internally supervised control center scores of the experimental group students included in the activities supported by digital stories were found to be higher and significant than the students in the other group. The success of the control group students is also related to the development of critical thinking and focus of control, but it is not significant. This result shows that the teaching with digital stories is more effective in terms of academic achievement, having critical thinking, and having internal control. According to this result, it is found that the formal program known to be student-centered is inadequate to improve the students' achievements and critical thinking, and that the students are more effective in increasing external audits.
