N-alkyl substituted 2',3 ''-thiazachalcones {3-[(1E)-3-(4-methylthiophene-2-yl)-3-oxoprop-1-en-1-yl]-1-alkyl (C-5-12,C-14) pyridinium bromides} were synthesized by a two-step reaction. the newly synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, elemental analysis and mass spectral studies. the synthesized compounds were tested for antibacterial activities and found to be more active against Gram-positive as compared to Gram-negative bacteria.
