Novel metal phthalocyanine (Cu, Zn, Co, Ni) polymers containing resorcinarene moieties were prepared; the resorcinarene was obtained by the acid-catalysed cyclocondensation of resorcinol and acetaldehyde under microwave irradiation. The resorcinarene phthalonitrile compounds were then synthesized by treating resorcinarene with 4,5-dichloro-1,2-dicyanobenzene and 4-nitro-1,2-dicyanobenzene under microwave irradiation, respectively. Cu(II), Co(II) and Ni(II) chlorides were employed in order to synthesize the corresponding metal phthalocyanine polymers and Zn(CH3CO2) was used to prepare zinc phthalocyanine polymers. Structures were characterized by elemental analyses, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, UV-vis and FTIR spectroscopy. © 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
