Today, the tendency to return to nature and natural products is increasing in order to avoid
the health problems brought about by advancing technology. Recently, many people around
the world think that herbal products are natural and safe, so they use such products for
healthy nutrition, weight loss, and cosmetic purposes. However, these herbal products can
cause some serious side effects as well as being natural and safe. These side effects may be
nausea, insomnia, diarrhea, skin rash, anaphylactic reactions, and serious psychiatric symptoms. Simultaneously with the growth of the herbal product market, case reports reporting
the side effects resulting from the unconscious and widespread use of these products are
also increasing. In this study, a 41-year-old female patient who didn’t have a history of mental
illness before and who applied to the psychiatry outpatient clinic with psychotic manic symptoms after consuming excessive green tea for weight loss is presented in the light of literature
findings. It is important for clinicians to be sensitive about the relationship between sudden
onset psychiatric symptoms and excessive consumption of herbal products
