Üniversite Öğrencilerinin Yabancı Düşmanlığıyla İlgili Tutumlarının İncelenmesi

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı; üniversite öğrencilerinin yabancı düşmanlığı düzeylerinin açıklanmasında çeşitli demografik değişkenlerin rolünün incelenmesidir. Araştırma nicel araştırma yaklaşımına dayalı ilişkisel tarama modeli çerçevesinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın örneklemini bir devlet üniversitesinin önlisans, lisans ve lisansüstü programlarında öğrenim gören ve seçkisiz olarak belirlenen 653 gönüllü öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak Yabancı Düşmanlığı (Zenofobi) Ölçeği ve Kişisel Bilgi Formu kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analizinde t testi ve ANOVA testi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucunda; üniversite öğrencilerinin yabancı düşmanlığı düzeyi ortalaması 3,92±1,22 bulunmuştur. Öğrencilerin yabancı düşmanlığı tutumuyla cinsiyet, öğrenim görülen fakülte, ailenin yaşadığı coğrafi bölge ve bölümünde ya da sınıfında yabancı öğrenci bulunma durumu arasında anlamlı ilişki olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Kadın öğrencilerin, ilahiyat fakültesinde öğrenim görenlerin, ailesi Karadeniz bölgesinde yaşayanların ve yabancı uyruklu öğrenciyle teması olanların yabancı düşmanlığı düzeylerinin anlamlı ölçüde düşük olduğu görülmüştür. Öğrencilerin yabancı düşmanlığına yönelik tutumlarına etki eden ve katılımcılar arasında anlamlı farkların oluşmasına neden olan faktörler ulusal ve uluslararası düzeyde gerçekleştirilen çalışmalarla ilişkilendirilerek tartışılmıştır. Sonuç bölümünde genel bir değerlendirme yapılarak, üniversite öğrencilerinin yabancılara yönelik tutumlarını olumlu yönde geliştirebilecek veya yabancı düşmanlığı düzeyini düşük seviyede tutabilecek önerilere yer verilmiştir.

The main purpose of this study is to examine the role of various demographic variables in explaining the xenophobia levels of university students. The research was carried out within the framework of a relational screening model based on a quantitative research approach. The sample of the study consists of students studying in associate, undergraduate and graduate programs of a public university. The sample consisted of 653 volunteer students. While collecting the data, Xenophobia Scale and Personal Information Form were used as data collection tools. In the analysis of the data, t test and ANOVA test were used. At the end of the research, the average level of xenophobia of university students was found to be 3,92±1,22. A significant relationship was found between the xenophobic attitude of the students and the gender, the faculty in which they were educated, the geographical region where the family lived and the presence of foreign students in their class. Among female students, the level of xenophobia was significantly lower among those who studied in theology faculty, whose families lived in the Black Sea region, and those who had contact with international students. In the discussion section, the factors affecting students' attitudes towards xenophobia and causing significant differences between the participants were associated with the studies carried out at national and international level. In conclusion, a general evaluation was made about the research topic and its results. Besides, the suggestions were given to improve the attitudes of university students towards foreigners in a positive way or to keep the level of xenophobia at a low level.
