Birinci Dünya Savaşı'nda Gürcü lejyonu ve faaliyetleri

Abstract

I. Dünya Savaşı'na Osmanlı Devleti'ni yanına alarak giren Almanya, Doğu Siyaseti'nin bir parçası olarak Rusları Kafkasya'dan çıkartmayı planladı. Bu amaçla, savaşın ilerleyen tarihlerinde her iki devlet çeşitli ortak faaliyetler içine girdiler. Bu faaliyetlerden biri de Gürcistan'a bağımsızlık kazandırmak amacıyla kurulan Gürcü Lejyonu'dur. Ancak, Rusların ciddi direniş göstermesi sonucu Kafkas Cephesi'nde alınan yenilgiler ve Osmanlı ordusunun cephe hattından gerilere çekilmesi planın gerçekleştirilmesini mümkün kılmamıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, İttifak devletleri ile Gürcülerin I.Dünya Savaşı'nda çakışan menfaatlerini ve ortak siyasetleri gereği ortaya çıkan Gürcü Lejyonu girişiminin incelenerek sonuçlarının analiz edilmesidir. Bu çerçevede, müttefiklerin Kafkasya siyaseti ile bu siyasete yön veren sebepler ele alınmış, ayrıca savaşla birlikte bu siyasetin başarılı olabilmesi için gerçekleştirilmiş faaliyetler incelenmiştir.

Forming an alliance with the Ottoman Empire, Germany joined the First World War with the aim of removing Russians from the Caucasus in line with her East policy. With this purpose, both states have entered into various joint activities during the war. One of these activities is the establishment of the Georgian Legion that was founded in order to gain independence for Georgia. Yet, defeats in the Caucasus Front as a result of serious resistance of the Russians and the retreat of the Ottoman army became a barrier before the plan. This study aims to review the conflicts between the profits of the Allied powers and that of Georgia, and the outcomes of the attempts made by the Georgian Legion according to their mutual policy. In this context, the Caucasian policy of the allied powers and the reasons that led to it were discussed, as well as with the activities done in order to achieve this policy in addition to the war.
