Abstract

The rapid increase in the human population in the last century has increased energy consumption to incredible levels. At the beginning of the 20th century, the environmental pollution and negative effects of fossil fuel-based energy production on human life pushed researchers to search for new ones. Since ancient times, the use of clean energy sources such as solar, wind, and geothermal energy in different ways has also been a hope for electricity generation. Clean energy sources, which are defined as renewable energy sources, are inevitable for a sustainable environment because they do not cause environmental pollution, and they have high potential. In this case, not only energy production but also how it is produced becomes important. Developments in energy production techniques, studies to increase the efficiency of energy production systems, and storage of energy for later use during intensive production periods are evaluated in this section. First, the performances of energy production systems and the studies on this subject are compared. Then, innovations in energy storage systems and the difficulties encountered are included, and recommendations that will guide new energy development and storage studies are made.
