of the social milieu in Turkey. The study is a descriptive research in which the survey model is adopted.
The study group consisted of 84 participants, including parents, peers, teachers, and school administrators
in the social milieu of children who are internet users in the 9-16 age group. Data collected by three different
interview forms developed for parents, peers, and teacher-school administrators were analyzed by the
descriptive and content analysis techniques. According to the social milieut, it was observed that children
have more access to the internet at home and they prefer smartphones to access the internet and they are
online many times a day. It was indicated that children mostly use mobile internet to connect to social
networks and play games. According to the social milieu, it was determined that the prominent skills of
children for using mobile devices and the internet are to connect to the wireless network, download
applications, and take photos and share them on social networks. Furthermore, it was indicated that there
are deficiencies in children's skills for safe internet use, such as blocking unwanted content, comparing
different applications in terms of security, and not being able to block application advertisements. Except
for encountering strangers and unwanted contents on the internet and being internet addicted, it was
observed that children take photos of their friends and share them without any permission. It was stated by
the social milieu that children often seek help from their parents and peers when they try to solve the risks
they encounter on the mobile internet themselves and cannot solve them. As a result, training can be given
to increase children's safe internet use skills and awareness of digital privacy.
